How it all began
My first blog… very daunting! I am so excited to be able to say I have started my very own hiking business where I am able to share our little piece of the world with everyone. I guess it all started when my lovely neighbour Dan (aka Miss Chardy) rang me one day to ask me to go hiking with her. She had just listened to the audio book “Wild” and was all set to go and hike the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) in America. I really wasn’t too sure if hiking was my thing so I suggested we start small and hike from our mustering camp at the northern end of our property back to the homestead. Backpacks were purchased and off we set – what a fantastic adventure with so many laughs along the way. The 60km hike made me realise how much I enjoyed taking in the landscapes and seeing the details instead of flying past in a vehicle at 90km/hour. We certainly did not do a glamping hike as we carried all of our gear (including a 25 year old tent) which weighed alot. We ate our dehydrated honey soy chicken and vegetables for dinners and the dreaded Maggi noodles for lunch.
I decided it would be so good to be able to hike this spectacular country side without having to carry all of your supplies and how great it would be to sit down at the end the day and enjoy a cold glass of wine with girlfriends. I had visions of a beautifully set dinner table beneath the stars, with someone topping up the wine glasses before dinner being served. My mind was so full of ideas of what would make my hikes an amazing experience. My darling husband was very patient with me and we worked our way through one logistical nightmare after another. Finally we were able to get underway and plan a trial hike with some of my close friends who I knew would be brutally honest with my ideas so far.
